ABOUT US
Our Approach
Alert Dog Training Perth doesn't subscribe to any one particular training method, utilising whatever methods work for each particular dog. Our methods are best described as holistic.
Our approach toward training a dog not only covers obedience training, but also considers factors such as behavioural issues, bad habits, history and environment, as well as your expectations as an owner. All of these factors contribute towards achieving a well balanced dog.
Our approach toward training a dog not only covers obedience training, but also considers factors such as behavioural issues, bad habits, history and environment, as well as your expectations as an owner. All of these factors contribute towards achieving a well balanced dog.
Most undesired behaviours come from the dog not understanding how to behave in a given situation, unclear rules & boundaries and a lack of self control.
We teach you how to reinforce the behaviours you wish your dog to show, and eliminate the behaviours you don't.
We train all breeds of dogs, and offer training from 8wks of age through to senior years (10yrs+).
Many clients over the years who have previously trained their dog elsewhere prior to contacting Alert Dog Training have been amazed by our easy, direct approach and fast, consistent results.
Our training is designed to get real results, in the real world. In most cases it takes just 7 sessions with us to achieve your goals.
We do not use treats or food when training, instead we focus on building the bond between you and your dog with praise and affection.
Unlike other trainers we don't just train your dog.We equip you with the skills & techniques to train your dog yourself.
That's why our training lasts a life time
How are we unique?
There are plenty of dog trainers, but in our opinion, very few good ones. Many are genuinely nice people with a real love for dogs and who as a result, have themselves become trainers.
That is all well and good but you will want results that are tangible and real.
Alert Dog Training remains one of Australia’s and certainly W.A’s longest, continuously established dog training businesses.
Dog training clubs, associations and group training very rarely get consistent results and generally offer very little value for money. After all, as the saying goes, “You get what you pay for”.
They tend not to fix specific issues and in many cases can have harmful or adverse affects on certain dogs, making them anxious or aggressive on occasions.
Also, how much time is a trainer able to devote to each individual dog and owner? Will you get conflicting advice from different trainers?
All of the above are complaints which we hear on a regular basis.

The Alert Difference
One of the most often asked questions from potential clients is “Do you use treats to train a dog?” The answer to that one is a definite no.
Why would you bribe a dog with treats when, naturally a dog will want to respond to your commands?! Certainly treats are a tool which can be utilised in certain circumstances in order to assist in the dog’s learning.
After all, would you give your children sweets and lollies to respond to your wishes?! Do you want to spend the rest of your life walking around with a pouch, full of doggie treats attached to your belt?!
You are likely to pay good money to have your dog trained so don’t get misled by amateur trainers who do not get you the desired results.
Your dog should respond to you 100% of the time because it wants to.
We utilise a vast array of methods, tailoring the training to your requirements based on knowledge and experience gained from many sources and experience over a number of years. The training is aimed at getting fast results. Being relaxed, informative and fun and useable in real life situations - where it really matters.

our Trainers
Del Fisk
Del began training as an instructor in 2004 with the founder of Alert Dog Training, Jim Ward, who mentored him in the method unique to Alert Dog Training.
This was achieved through intensive on the job training, which had the advantage of providing a solid knowledge base of real life scenarios, dogs and their owners, rather than attending a short course based mainly on theoretical knowledge. Del consequently took over the running of Alert Dog Training.
Del originated from the UK, where he served in the Army for 9 years and the Police service for 11 years, during this time he worked and served in conjunction with working dogs and their handlers.

She has worked in the training environment for many years, with intensive on the job training, which had the advantage of providing a solid knowledge base of real life scenarios, dogs and their owners.
Origins
Alert Dog Training can trace its origins back to 1991 based on the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia. It was here that Jim Ward, an ex British and Australian soldier, began offering one on one obedience training.
At that time this was a very innovative move as Jim was most likely the first trainer in the whole of Australia to offer this service. In 1993 Alert Dog Training moved to Perth where again Jim began offering the first home dog training service.
Jim learnt his trade through working with various trainers and obedience clubs, training dogs up to Utility Dog standards. He went on to become head instructor at Townsville and then Canberra obedience clubs.

Jim furthered his knowledge by learning how to train guard dogs from Military Dog Handlers.
These skills were reinforced over the years by working with other trainers as well as working in the security industry, culminating in Jim running his own highly successful security company before starting Alert Dog Training.
In 1995 Jim received qualifications in obedience and protection training from the National Dog Trainers Federation.
Jim continued to expand and develop Alert Dog Training, which went from strength to strength, until retiring in 2001
