We started the 1:1 sessions with Lei when our then 7 month old kelpie started showing quite severe signs of hyperarousal and subsequent lead reactivity around other dogs, after months of puppy school training with another trainer and lots of overall socialisation.
So grateful that we switched to private sessions with Alert when we did, as Lei focussed on getting to know Kosmo and understanding the specific areas we needed help with, and then tailored our sessions to work on those issues directly.
We noticed tangible results after each session and throughout the 7 sessions, our now 1 year old friend is so much calmer, we all feel well bonded and that we're working and having fun together.

We have a 14th old German shepherd (Rebel) he is loving beautiful but arrogant and a teenager!
Being a big dog and living in an area where there are alot of elderly people with little dogs we owed to him to be obedient and have total control for his well being.
I've had dogs before but never had professional training. Big mistake.....Del was absolutely amazing. His teaching was logical and simple and like people dogs are different in how they learn. Worth every penny.
Only regret we didn't start it when he was 3mths old.

Could not be happier with the results from training with Del! We got our first german shepherd and had no idea what we were doing.
We had issues with biting, jumping, leash walking and recall and thanks to Alert we have learned the skills to cope with these problems and now us and our pup are much happier. Not to mention we have learned other skills along the way such as advanced stay which never fails to impress.
Our boy is now 6.5months old and is like a completely different dog. I honestly think all dogs would benefit from this type of training, it creates such a good relationship between owner and dog. Can’t thank you guys enough!

"Just wanted to say a massive thankyou to Lei from Alert Dog Training. We had an attention seeking, out of control German Shepherd who couldn't be walked, who barked constantly and who didn't like people and other dogs.
We had been to different training places but nothing seemed to work. From the first time Lei turned up to our house we noticed a difference in our dog.
Lei not only trained Churchill but our family as well. We have now progressed to group training and the change in Churchill is amazing - we have a beautifully behaved dog (most of the time!) who we can be proud of. We would highly recommend Alert Dog Training to everyone."

"Before we approached Del our rescue staffy had a lot of challenging behavioural issues including not following commands, especially during a walk or out of the house. At the end of 7 sessions he now sits, drops and stays on command, will recall and sit to your left hand side, heels, doesn't pull on the lead and is a lot more pleasant to take on a walk.
We now have the tools and know-how to correct him if he does step out of line and overall our confidence in and bond with him has grown immensely. We are looking forward to the Group Training sessions to work on his socialisation skills moving forward.
Del is fantastic to work with, his approach is simple and straightforward and he is a funny bugger too. We highly recommend Del and Alert Dog Training to anyone willing to do the work, keep at it and trust the process."

We were having aggression issues with our male GSD so we contacted Del. We were given the tools and knowledge to handle him, know the signs and correct them before he gets aggressive. After a few months our GSD is more relaxed and is on the right path. We have recently finished our sessions with Del and can't recommend him enough!

Bec Harold

We introduced Del to our 11 week old Aussie Bulldog, Hershey after being recommended by friends and previous clients of Alert. As a bulldog she is naturally stubborn (not to mention slow) and needed to be schooled early to rule out any dominance issues.The knowledge Del has on canine (and human) psychology is absolutely mind blowing, which educates you as an owner on the reasons why a canine will/won’t respond to its owner.
Hershey has just completed her sixth lesson and walks without pulling, sits, drops, walks on heel and stays. These are all things we never thought possible with our ‘stubborn’ bulldog. Del has a way of making you feel completely comfortable whilst remaining firm with the dog and achieving amazing results with his approach to training.
Remember though, it’s all on you as an owner, training needs to be practiced everyday. And trust me when I say “Del will know If you haven’t practiced”.Thank you Del, we’re looking forward to group training!

Jo with Rey

I was initially quite nervous about attending group sessions. The photos all have dogs and their owners looking so well behaved! That is not my dog, even after the private sessions! Rey can still be reactive towards some other dogs, even though she is great with others. I eventually went to a group session, and the people there were so supportive! It was exactly what Rey needed - the chance to practice being around other dogs, in a great safe environment where no dogs are going to run up to my dog with their owner running behind them shouting “it’s ok, my dog is friendly!!” All of the owners have been through the training, and Lei and Del are tight there to offer support. It’s the perfect way to practice the private lesson skills with other dogs around! Thanks Lei and Del, Rey and I will definitely be back!

We rescued Chuppy, a 3 year old staffy x mastiff 6 months ago. She had basically no leash manners, was very scared, nervous and dog reactive when on the leash (and had some run-ins with other dogs off leash also). Upon reading reviews we decided to give Del a go, and from lesson 1 had no regrets. Del has an clear, concise, no BS and often funny way of explaining things and Chuppy quickly developed a bond with him. Chuppy is a now a more well-behaved, confident, relaxed dog. Walks are now an enjoyable time instead of a highly stressful mission. We can’t recommend Del enough and look forward to Chuppy’s continual development and joining in group training.

Having just completed our course of lessons with Del from Alert Dog Training, we can honestly highly recommend him to other dog owners.
Our eight month old female German Shepherd had become more than a handful when we finally realised expert guidance was needed to help shape her into the lovely, friendly girl she now is.
From our first lesson we were greatly impressed with Del’s cool professionalism and ability to translate canine mannerisms, many of which we were completely misinterpreting. His methods are as much about training the owner as the dog itself, and in this he has given us the confidence and leadership skills to help her develop in a calm, relaxed fashion with minimal stress. The lessons and individual exercises are easy to follow and it often comes as a surprise how effective they are in gaining the desired results when repeated consistently.
At just over a year old, our girl is still a boisterous ball of energy. The difference now, four months on, is that she has definite boundaries to help curb her impulses and know her place in the family hierarchy, and she is a much more settled dog because of this. Thanks for everything, Del!

Del’s 1-1 dog training sessions are amazing, and as long as you are prepared to be consistent with the training you and your dog will benefit. Prior to having the sessions I was unable to take our GSD out on my own for fear that he would lunge at cars, motorbikes, push bikes, other dogs, runners. He is a strong dog and I was unable to control him, in fact he had pulled me over. After 3 sessions with Del and consistent repetition of the lessons I had the confidence to take Monty out alone. He has been a Godsend, and we have the dog we always wanted. I would recommend Del and Alert to everyone who is thinking of getting a dog, I wish we had started with him sooner.

I would highly recommend Del, his general approach to dog training (and person training) is designed to be relatable and easy enough to put into practice. Del has a way of making you feel comfortable and has a great sense of humour when describing your side behaviour. We rescued a basically untrained 2.5 year old GSD girl last year. She'd had 2 other homes through no fault of her own. We have had GSDs for over 25 years but this one was different. I tried all my tricks from many years of club training, to no avail. So, I searched for recommendations of trainers and could not go past Alert.Del is a no-bull, plain speaker. The sort of person that I can relate to. If you don't like being told the error of your ways, don't go to Del. He is honest and straight forward. He expects you to work hard with your dog, because your dog deserves it. I've let him ( and my girl) down there but what I can say is that my girl is now a gazzillion times better than she was and I will work harder in the future to ensure she becomes the best she can.Thanks, Del. I look forward to the socialisation classes.

I highly recommend alert dog training ! We just finished our training lessons with our 16 month old German shepherd, Rex. It’s amazing to see the progress my dog has made through these lessons. Rex has always been reactive and would pull a lot when going on walks. Since he is such a big fella it was always stressful to take him out. However after these lessons, Rex has made such an improvement on his walks and we can take him out freely without all the stress. Del is truly an amazing and knowledgeable trainer. We can’t thank him enough for all the help he has given us !

Del is so amazing with dogs, you can see that he is passionate about what he does. He has help my German Shepherd Ollie so much!! At first we thought we had no hope as Ollie always thought he was boss.... To see the difference in compared to when we first started it is amazing!! I took him for a walk this morning, and he was the most well behaved dog on the street! Pretty bloody proud.

OMG!! I can not recommend Lei enough, the change in my English staffie, Alfie after the first session has been amazing. He has anxiety aggression and with her support he is becoming a happier more relaxed dog when we go out. He is not quite there yet but I’m sure he will. He stopped pulling on the lead after the first session, as with our amstaff Indie. With Indie she would jump up at visitors when they come around, again after the first session she has improved heaps and has stopped jumping. I’m now walking them both with no pulling. So thank you so much and will see you in the group sessions!

We are so thankful to have found Del and ALERT dog training! We rescued Lexi in November 2018 and were discovering some undesirable behaviours (pulling on the lead and super anxious/reactive around unfamiliar dogs in public). We tried other training companies but were disappointed to be told that “because she’s already 4 years old she has fully developed” and to essentially deal with the undesirable behaviours ...... which could not have been more wrong. Thank god for Del and his simple yet effective training and education. Del has helped us to become better leaders for Lexi which has changed our little lady for the better. We now have a much more obedient, respectful and calm dog who we can take for enjoyable walks on the lead around the neighbourhood and through the park, both of which used to be a nightmare. We can’t thank Del enough for everything he has done for us and our pup! For what you pay each session and the take away work provided, the value is incredible. We would encourage anyone with similar issues to get in touch with Del. Wish we had found him earlier!

LUCY ADAMS

Our boy Oscar (Bull Arab x Ridgeback - 47kg), despite attending consistent training classes from puppyhood, had turned into a 45kg wrecking ball on the end of the lead (sheer enthusiasm to make friends - no aggresion) to the point where I found it difficult to walk him (he'd knocked me off my feet a couple of times).
Around this time, just as we were beginning to wonder what we'd taken on, Del at Alert Dog Training was recommended to us. Del came to the house for our first lesson at the end of September 2019 and from that first hour and a half lesson Oscar has been a different animal. Del is extremely knowledgeable, professional and reliable and the lessons are delivered in manageable, bite size chunks to work up from level to level.
As of today, early Jan 2020, in our last one-on-one session, Oscar walked to heel off leash and will remain in a drop stay despite other dogs being in the vicinity. We still have plenty we can improve on and polish, but we honestly can't recommend Del and Alert Dog Training highly enough. We can't wait to attend the group training sessions now we've "graduated" (and by "we" I mean it became obvious that Del was training us as handlers as much as, if not more, than he was training Oscar!)
Thanks Del, for teaching us how to train our boy to be an enjoyable member of our family
